The County Responds
The Dialogue Begins!
The Gulf County Board of Commissioners responded to the position papers produced by the Economic Summit group through a workshop held May 19, 2008. A fascimile of their written responses is attached herewith.
Many of the responses were helpful - more dialogue is clearly necessary. The Rurbane Economist section of this website is committed to documenting that dialogue.
The written responses don't capture much of the emotion of the workshop proceedings. The St. Joe News Network may have filmed it - watch your local access channel to see if they are running it. If not, call them and ask them to run it. This is your government at work at a precarious moment in our time.
There are some genuine errors in the original position papers; there are many issues of semantics which deserve much more discernment and some re-wording would be helpful; and, by and large, the Board of Commissioners concurred that this effort was not insignificant and was largely beneficial.
The Commissioners have committed to helping to establish a document that we can all be proud of. Let's get it done! Stay tuned for the next public meeting dates.
...and Our Respect, Honor and Appreciation on Memorial Day
This very conversation is at the root of what our Veterans and Active Soldiers fought for - it is our dutry and honor to them to engage in a civil and civilized conversation that concerns the future of our communities and families. And to have at least a modicum of the courage and perserverance that they demonstrated to us as we do so.
